BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING MINUTES
TUESDAY, JANUARY 17, 2012
ATTENDANCE: Library Trustees: Gordon Doig, Leone Michalec, Steve Hicks
Library Director: Debbie Benedict
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. at the Meagher County City Library.
It was moved by Steve and seconded by Leone and unanimously carried to approve November 15, 2011 meeting minutes as presented.
It was moved by Leone and seconded by Steve and unanimously carried to approve bills as presented for payment.
Library Sign Hours
Elton attempted to contact Logan Pierce but was unsuccessful.
Library Information Display Case
The need for an outdoor information display case was discussed.
It was moved by Steve and seconded by Leone and unanimously carried to request Friends of the Library purchase an 18x28-inch outdoor information display case, subject to Elton’s approval.
Library Foundation Update
The Meagher County Library Foundation is exempt from Federal income tax as a public charity under section 501c3 of the Internal Revenue Code effective July 15, 2011. Contributions are deductible under section 170 of the Code and the Foundation is qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under section 2055, 2106 or 2522 of the Code. A meeting will be scheduled in the near future to plan next steps.
It was suggested a newspaper article be prepared to inform the public about the Meagher County Library Foundation. Current options for donating to the library were discussed. The library currently has an established Donald W. Johnston Memorial Library Trust Fund; however, the option now exists to donate to the Meagher County Library Foundation with funds temporarily held in the Donald W. Johnston Fund and transferred once the Foundation banking account is established.
MontanaLibrary2Go Update
The library received a $1500 Steele-Reese Foundation grant which will pay one-time start-up costs. Online training will be offered in February with a “go-live” date in March.
Spring Training Schedule
Debbie presented the board an outline of upcoming spring training and planned library coverage.
Community Service
Debbie updated the board on her conversation with Judge John Wells on January 9, 2012 concerning what, if any, role the library could play in providing community service projects to assist offenders with completion of sentencing requirements. Both agreed there are issues which limit library involvement.
Librarian Report
Debbie provided copies of the Librarian Report, which is on file at the library.
Date of Next Meeting
The next board meeting is scheduled for February 21, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the library.
There being no further business to discuss, it was moved by Steve and seconded by Leone and unanimously carried to adjourn the meeting at 7:18 p.m.
