MEAGHER COUNTY CITY LIBRARY
BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING MINUTES
TUESDAY, APRIL 9, 2013
ATTENDANCE: Library Trustees: Gordon Doig, Leone Michalec, Steve Hicks, Elton Lee,
Gretchen Rader
Library Director: Debbie Benedict
The meeting was called to order at 6:10 p.m. at the Meagher County City Library.
It was moved by Steve, seconded by Gretchen, and unanimously carried to approve March 12, 2013 meeting minutes as presented.
It was moved by Steve, seconded by Leone, and unanimously carried to approve bills as presented for payment.
Webmaster
Whether to retain Alana Mueller-Brunkhorst as off-site webmaster of the library website was discussed which is estimated to involve 1-4 hours monthly. Gretchen offered to provide guidance to Alana on establishing a sole proprietorship. Quarterly billing is preferred over monthly.
It was moved by Steve, seconded by Leone, and unanimously carried to retain Alana as webmaster and pay her $18.00 per hour.
Sewer Smell
It is believed the sewer smell which closed the library for two days on March 13-14 was a result of wind drying out water in the trap. A schedule needs to be maintained adding water to bathroom and janitor closet traps on a weekly but at a minimum monthly basis. Methods which could be used to vent the janitor closet and office were discussed. Allowing the bathroom fan to run continuously to circulate air which vented through a hole cut in one of the bathroom’s upper walls was used in the past. Steve and Elton will explore possibilities for providing ventilation to these rooms.
Elton asked Larry Berg about installing a 14 x 28 inch window in the Library Director’s office. Because of heat loss, Elton will ask Larry to provide an estimate instead for a 14 x 14 inch roll-out window.
Library Director Evaluation Form
Blank forms were passed out to be filled out by each board member and returned to Gordon one week prior to the next board meeting at which time the original will be signed by all board members.
Air Purifier Recommendation
Linda Banks spoke with Gordon concerning the problem she has with her immune system while inside the library and said she only experiences this while inside the library. She explained there are many people with specific allergies and the purest air results from bringing outside air into an environment. Her recommendation was for the library to purchase inexpensive air purifiers and place them in various locations in the library. Her suggestion was tabled since the board is investigating other possibilities, including a type of programmable vent pipe with a manual override which could vent the office and janitor closet through the roof. If Linda follows up with Gordon, he will explain what was discussed at the meeting.
Librarian Report
Debbie provided copies of the Librarian Report, which is on file at the library.
She mentioned an intermittent “burning electrical wire” type of smell in the library. Steve will bring a meter down to check wiring and Elton can look on the roof. If needed, Brian Fisher will be consulted.
Date of Next Board Meeting
The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, 2013, 6:00 p.m. at the library.
There being no further business to discuss, it was moved by Steve, seconded by Leone, and unanimously carried to adjourn the meeting at 7:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Debbie Benedict
